Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro – Everything We Know So Far

Google’s following flagship smartphones known as Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro aren’t due for a while, but we already know they’re on the way thanks to Google’s announcement at I/O this year. After the release of Google Pixel 6a which is a great midrange smartphone. It was expected that google will announce it’s new flagship devices at Google I/O 2022.

Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro were already in news even before the release of Google Pixel 6a. So we were not surprised when Google announced both smartphones at its I/O 2022 conference.

During the annual event, Google unveiled the design of the new smartphones, which appears to be highly close to renders that have surfaced recently. Aside from that, Google disclosed a significant spoiler for the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Continue reading for more information about Google’s next flagships.

Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro were on display at Google I/O 2022. Google did not share much about its upcoming flagship smartphones, but we got to know that both the smartphones will be powered by Google’s Tensor second-generation chipset. It will include a Samsung modem. The chipset will be called Tensor 2.0.

The design of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro has previously been disclosed, all models are identical to their predecessors, with the exception of slight tweaks to the camera visor on the rear.

Leaks about Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro

The Pixel 7 Pro details were leaked last month by well-known leaker @Shadow_Leak. The smartphone is codenamed ‘Panther,’ according to the leaker. It will have a 120Hz AMOLED display and a triple back camera (also seen in the official images released by Google). The smartphone will ship with Android 13 out of the box. The second-generation Tensor processor will be the main centerpiece of the smartphone, which Google has confirmed.

Display

According to speculations, the Pixel 7 will have a screen size between 6.2 and 6.4 inches and the Pixel 7 Pro will have a 6.7 or 6.8-inch screen. This is similar to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, therefore there may be just minor changes in this area.

Expected Front Look – Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro

The Pixel 6 had a Full HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 90Hz, whilst the Pixel 6 Pro offered a variable refresh rate ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz.

It wouldn’t be shocking to see the Pixel 7 go up to 120Hz and the Pixel 7 Pro offers a lower refresh rate of 1Hz, as competitors do, though there’s no information on this front in the leaks at the moment. However, HDR support is expected.

Design

The Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will look identical to their predecessors, as confirmed by Google’s I/O tease, but with a few minor changes.
The camera casing that spans the back of both devices will remain in 2022, but the Pixel 7 handsets will now wrap into the frame, as the Samsung Galaxy S22 does. It’s also metallic rather than dark glass.

We don’t have specific measurements of the design at this point, so we’re left with rumors about the phone’s proportions.

  • The Google Pixel 7 is believed to be 155.6 x 73.1 x 8.7mm with a camera hump of 11.44mm.
  • The Pixel 7 Pro is 163 x 76.6 x 8.7mm with a camera bump of 11.2mm.

According to the photos supplied by Google, the Pixel 7 will continue to have a flat display, while the Pixel 7 Pro may maintain the slightly curved edges found on the Pixel 6 Pro. According to the renders, both handsets will include a centralized punch hole camera at the top of their displays, as well as under-display fingerprint sensors.

The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are both IP68 water and dustproof, therefore the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro should be as well.

Camera

The Google Pixel 7 is expected to have a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and an 8-megapixel front camera. If genuine, the enhancements appear to be focused on the ultra-wide lens as compared to the Pixel 6.

Meanwhile, the Google Pixel 7 Pro is rumored to contain primary, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses, but no specs have been revealed in leaks. It wouldn’t be shocking to see a similar configuration to the Pixel 6 Pro with perhaps some additional capabilities rather than a significant upgrade in hardware.

These layouts are similar to the design photos Google revealed during I/O, so they appear to be accurate.

It’s worth noting that Google patented an under-display camera in August 2021; while this doesn’t ensure that the Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro will include the technology, it is a possibility for the Pro model.

Processor

The Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro both use the Google Tensor chip, which is a departure from Qualcomm CPUs. Google has long been rumored to be working on a second-generation Tensor processor, which it officially revealed at I/O 2022, along with the revelation that the new phones will use the new chipset.

Tensor 2.0

Google is keeping things mysterious for the time being, however, it’s been reported that the Tensor 2.0 processor will have a Samsung Exynos Modem 5300, despite the fact that Samsung does not currently have a modem with that name on the market.

Storage and RAM

According to reports, the Pixel 7 could include storage capacities of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. MicroSD is not expected in any of these. The 512GB storage option would be new for the Pixel 7, as the Pixel 6 only supports 256GB, but these are only rumors for the time being.

We’d expect at least 8GB of RAM on the Pixel 7 and 12GB on the Pixel 7 Pro, the same as their predecessors.

Battery

According to some rumors, the basic Pixel 7 will have a 5000mAh battery, similar to the Pixel 6 Pro. It’s not an unrealistic assumption by any means, but it hasn’t been confirmed either.
