We heard a rumor about iPhone last weekend, and it was not about the under-display camera or the screen size. This rumor was about what’s included in the box or rather I say, what’s not in the box. Now we got to know that rumor is now confirmed. A well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has apparently confirmed that Apple is not including a charger in iPhone 12 box. Yes, you read it right. None at all. Meaning you won’t even get a lame 5W charger that takes more than two hours to charge an iPhone completely.
Currently, it is unclear if Kuo was talking about the whole lineup of iPhone 12 or just entry-level iPhones. Right now his sources expect Tech giant to ship new model this November without an adapter. Seriously it is a stupid move by Apple.
Lame 5W Charger
Let’s say, nearly everyone who is or was an Apple user has a lame 5W charger somewhere in their house, and anyone who has never used an iPhone before has an iPhone charger in their drawer somewhere. But still, when you buy an electronic device, whether it’s an Apple device, a PlayStation, or a Sandwich maker, you expect to have everything you need to operate it.
18W Fast Charger With iPhone 11 Pro
While every other smartphone maker has shipped its phones with fast chargers nearly for five years now. Apple only started including an 18W charger with iPhone 11 box (only with pro models). Meaning the iPhone 11 still comes with the same 5W adapter you are using since childhood.
We expected that Apple will include an 18W adapter in iPhone 12 models especially with battery draining 5G on board.
The math is simple: Apple charges $19 for its 5W charger and $29 for 18W charger, and the USB-C that is required to fast charge costs the same as the simple one. The benefit for the user is huge. Now we might not get anything.
Battery Draining 5G on Board in iPhone 12
It is expected that Apple will sell the iPhone 12 at the same price as the iPhone 11. We know that 5G and OLED, which are rumored to be coming to all iPhone 12 models, aren’t cheap. So something has to give. Not including a charger seems like the only way to bring back a few dollars in savings for Apple. But it doesn’t matter when you’re selling millions of units of devices every four months.
Blank Space Instead of a Charger
It will be pretty shocking to open your new iPhone box and see a blank space instead of a charger. You might think that Apple forgot to include the charger in this box.
Phones don’t come with a full charge, most of the people plug them in while setting up. It looks like now they have to go to markets first to buy a charger for their phone first or they have to find their old charger lost somewhere in the house.
It is possible that to cut price apple may include at least a USB-C-to-Lighting cable in the box. But that is still weird considering the brand value of Apple.
Portless Apple iPhone
iPhone 12 is still in the early manufacturing process and apple could go either way, so it’s a good time for testers. A rumor like this was certain to spread like fire, so if Apple was gauging for the public’s reaction before taking the final decision, the source and timing is perfect.
The backlash might be enough for Apple to include a charger in the iPhone 12 box, it’s pretty save to accept that iPhone 13 which is expected to be completely portless, won’t have one.
In my opinion, portless phones are the future. I wouldn’t be surprised to see other brands follow apple in this regard Just like notch display, gesture navigation, and headphone jack.
I am expecting Huawei, Samsung, and other big Android smartphone makers to adopt apple’s strategy to remove chargers from the box or at least explore their options.
iPhone 12 with no Lightning Buds
We all are already expecting Apple to remove the Lightning earbuds from the upcoming iPhone, but not including a charger was unexpected. Yes, you can get excellent chargers from the market, but that’s not the point. A charger is a necessity, not including one is just stupid and weird.
It’s already bad enough that Apple won’t include a pair of lightning earbuds in the iPhone 12 box.
