Ways To Fix The Instagram Couldn’t Refresh Feed Issue

This issue is quite common in the Instagram App and the fixes are very easy to follow. We are mentioning top useful fixes in this guide so that if one fixes don’t work you can switch to another one.

1. Check your Internet Connection

This is the most common reason for “couldn’t refresh feed” error message. Some of the posts on Instagram app are already loaded and saved in cache memory but as we scroll more, we get the error.

So you may assume that problem occurred just now. But actually, your internet (Wi-Fi/Mobile Data) was not turned on or there is some problem with the Internet service provider.

So make sure to check for your Wi-Fi or mobile data connection, turn it on if it is not already, and then try loading the Instagram again.
Hopefully, this will fix the issue.

2. Mobile Data Limit

If the first fix didn’t help this one probably will. So, you confirmed that you are connected to the internet and your internet connection is working fine but still getting “couldn’t refresh feed” error.

Many times the problem is with your mobile data limit. You have probably exceeded the mobile data limit of your phone for the day. This happens because many companies don’t send any notification regarding the data limits. This issue can be resolved by simply purchasing more mobile data for your device.

If you want to use your mobile data only for Instagram, you can always disable other apps or websites from using the data. This can be done by exploring the mobile data setting in your smartphone’s settings menu.

3. Disable your VPN

People use VPNs more often these days. You all are aware that VPN connections are used to get access to banned sites or apps.

Sometimes, Instagram doesn’t allow you to use Instagram. if your VPN is turned, try disabling your VPN connection and reload the feed. This probably will fix the problem.

4.  Check For Updates

Most of the social media apps provide updates frequently, whether it is Instagram, Snapchat, or Facebook or WhatsApp. Some of the updates will be minor bug fixes and others will be major updates. If you have not updated your Instagram for a long time you might get a “couldn’t refresh feed” message. To fix this issue simply update your app. You can update it from the Play store if you are an Android and if you are an iPhone user you can update it from the Apple store.

When the update is completed relaunch the app, hopefully, the problem will be resolved.

5. Log out and Log in Again

You have tried everything but everything seems fine but still, the feed is not loading. Now, this is torture.

Sometimes easiest methods are the real savior. Just like when our TV remote stops working and we beat it and miraculously it starts working again. You have to do the same on Instagram. No, I don’t mean you have to beat your smartphone (Don’t do that please). Just hit log out and close the app. Now relaunch the app and login again. This simple trick might help you and you might get scroll Instagram feed again.

You might be wondering how to logout from Instagram. Here are the steps:

6. Kill the App and relaunch

We assume that you have already tried out this method (because it is the first thing one would do). But if you haven’t just closed the Instagram app by going back to the home screen. Now kill the app by removing it from the recently opened apps or you can also force close it.  Now open the app again.

Your Instagram feed should be working now.

7. Refresh Cache Memory

The current smartphones are very smart and maintains the apps cache for the user’s own benefit. But sometimes smartphone’s built-in maintenance mechanism becomes the root cause of the problem. The cache can be a hindrance to the Instagram’s smooth functioning, making it difficult for you to load the feed properly. Once app cache gets cleared all the problems with your Instagram app might also get cleared away.

To clear the Instagram cache manually, follow these steps:

1. Open the phone settings and head to the App manager.

2. Now, open Instagram from the list of apps.

3. Select the Storage option in the next step.

4. Simply tap on Clear cache to clear all the junk Instagram files.

Now open your Instagram and see if it is working.

8. Restart your Phone

Restarting an electronic device is usually the best option and mostly solves the problem too.

So if you are still unable to load your Instagram feed, you can switch off your smartphone and restart it. Now open up the Instagram app again, try scrolling the feed, and see if the issue is resolved.

9. Problem with Instagram server

If you have tried everything from checking your internet connection to restarting your smartphone and the problem is still there. May the problem is with Instagram itself.

If the Instagram servers are down there is nothing you can do but wait. And you are not the only one facing the problem, everyone using the internet at that moment is will be facing the same problem.

10. Contact Instagram Support

If you’re reading this section, we think that you have tried every above-mentioned method and nothing works.

Now maybe there is some technical issue with your account. These kinds of issues are not fixable by updating the app, clearing cache, or logging back again.
