The PS5 will be Sony’s most powerful gaming console yet. What We Know So Far About PlayStation 5.

On June 11, 2020, Sony finally revealed the much-awaited PS5 (PlayStation 5). In an event, we got to know all about the PS5’s upcoming games, then the conference ended in a surprise reveal of the PS5 system itself. In my opinion, PS5’s look is very futuristic, it will be a black and white tower with round angles and fins on the top. We now know that its color scheme is the same as the DualSense Controller.

Sony PlayStation 5 Specs

  • CPU: 8x Zen 2 Cores at 3.5GHz
  • GPU: 10.28 TFLOPs, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz, RDNA 2 architecture
  • RAM: 16GB GDDR6
  • Storage: Custom 825GB SSD
  • Expandable storage: NVMe SSD slot
  • Optical drive: 4K Blu-ray drive

Most of the games will run at 4K resolution with speeds of 60 FPS, but the system can handle resolutions up to 8K and frame rates up to 120 FPS.

Sony PlayStation 5 Price

PS5’s price is yet to be announced, but we can expect the price to be around $499 for the simple edition and $399 for the digital edition. Confused about simple edition and digital edition? Don’t worry, I will tell you later in this guide. As for the price, unless you hear the price from Sony, do not believe it. The price I just quoted is most certainly wrong.

Console Interface

We haven’t seen the official interface of PS5 yet, but an old Reddit leak supposedly reveals what the PS5 dev kit’s menus look like. The interface of PS5 in this leak is almost the same as to the PS4, although as users have pointed out, this doesn’t indicate anything about PS5 Menus.

In the year 2018, Sony filed a patent application, that might actually tell you something interesting about the PS5 interface. Sony could add a pop-up dialogue box in its PS5 interface to tell you how long a level can take to complete, as well as whether this will conflict with your pending real-world tasks.

This patent hasn’t been approved yet, so this might be a launch feature, but Sony can add it if the patent gets approved.

Sony PlayStation 5 Pre-Order

PS5 doesn’t have a price or a release date yet, therefore, it’s not possible to pre-order a console at the moment. However, but some stores are still offering substitute solutions.

You can sign up for notification about PS5 pre-orders. When the retailers are allowed to sell PS5, you’ll receive a notification about it via e-mail. You’ll then have a chance to get your hands on next-generation PlayStation.

We may have some more information about the pre-order process when the launch date gets closer, but at the moment you can just sign up for the availability notifications.

Release Date

As per Sony, PS5 will be launched during the 2020 holiday season. This means PS5 will hit the market within a few weeks of Xbox Series X. For the moment, any information other than this is just speculation.

Sony has announced that the PS5 will launch during the holiday 2020 season. This means it will likely come out within a few weeks of its competitor, the Xbox Series X. Anything past that, for the moment, is simply speculation. For example, The PS4 hit the market on November 15, 2013, so PS5 will also hit the market on the same date.

DualSense Controller

On 7th April 2020, Sony officially introduced DualSense Controller. DualSense has a similar layout and brought back the touchpad from DualShock 4, its black and white designs look nothing like any PlayStation controller we’ve seen before. The rumor is this redesigned PlayStation controller is likely to be released with the PS5 console.

Sony has also confirmed that DualSense will have adaptive triggers as well as haptic feedback, which will provide the players realistic, tactile rumble to simulate the feel of driving through mud or firing a bow and arrow.

Another great feature of this controller is a high-quality built-in microphone, which enables you to chat with friends without any need for a gaming headset.

Sony PlayStation 5 Games

One of the biggest games that will be launched alongside PS5 is Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

This game introduced Miles Morales as a newer, younger, and unexperienced Spider-Man. We currently know very little about this game, but expect to learn more about it in the coming days.

The second Key game coming with PS5 is Horizon II: Forbidden West. This game is a follow up on the 2017 hit game Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Some other upcoming PS5 games include Gran Turismo 7, Godfall, Resident Evil Village, NBA 2K21 and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart,

As per reports, Ubisoft has also started working on some games for PS5, including Watch Dogs Legion, Rainbox Six Quarantine an Assassin’ Creed Valhalla. We’ll also see Fortnite, but that’s no great surprise.

Hardware & Architecture

A lead system architect at Sony, Gods Mark Cerny, hosted an event on March 18 that told users about some great points of PS5’s hardware. Particularly, he discussed PlayStation 5’s SSD technology and 3D audio capabilities. He also told users about next-generation PlayStation, GPU, CPU, and RAM Structure.

According to Epic Games developers, the SSD is the PS5’s secret weapon. The PS5 has a load rate of 5.5 GB per second. That is almost 10 times faster than its predecessor.

Epic Games is, so impressed with PS5’s SSD technology that it is willing to rewrite parts of Unreal Engine’s code. A developer stated SSD will force other developers to change how they approach game designs. His claim is bold, but we’ll see for ourselves during the lifecycle of PS5.

Gods Mark Cerny also shed some light on the PS5’s GPU and the physical construction of the PS5’s CPU. The short story is that the PS5’s control unit (CU) is 62% larger than the PS4’s. This means PS5’s CPU will be able to do more processes, more effectively, and efficiently.

The updated GPU will use tracing and shaders, which will affect power consumption and heat management. Not like PS4, where power consumption can vary tremendously from game to game. PS’s technology will try to standardize the consumption for each game. This will also prevent overheating and excessive fan noise.

Console and Design

(Pic Credit: Sony)

As you know Sony revealed the PlayStation 5’s final design on June 11. The console will come in two versions: simple PlayStation 5, and a PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. The simple one has a disc drive, while the other will play only digital games. Apparently, the cost of the Digital edition will be less, but still, it is not clear how much.

Currently, the internet is debating about the design of the next generation PS. Some people think the design is ridiculous and some think the design is futuristic. In my opinion, it is quite futuristic. But we should wait until the console comes out.

This is all for now, I will update you if there is more news about PlayStation 5. Thanks for reading!
